NEW STALLION FOR REMI STUD

**  Lauries As  **

We are very excited to announce that we have purchased a new stallion in Germany.  Lauries As is a 6 year old, 17hh, black Hanoverian stallion that is fully licensed with the Hanoverian Society (see stallion index).  His sire is the sensational stallion Londonderry (Lauries Crusader/Warkant) and his dam is the beautiful mare St Pr St. Pik Lady by Pik Bube I.  We purchased Ace through the Hanoverian Elite Auction in April this year where he was featured as Lot No 1. Ace has won 7 L level competitions in Germany plus qualified for the Bundeschampionate in 2007 and 2008.  We left him in Germany where he was ridden by top trainer, Joern Kubelke, until September last year when he competed at the Bundeschampionate, scoring between 7.5 and 8.5 for all 3 paces.  W wonderful result!!  He arrived in Australia in November last year, and spent the breeding season here at Remi Stud whilst he acclimatised to our warmer summer weather.  We look forward to his first crop of foals later in 2009.

STOP PRESS:  Ace had his first competition in Australia in on May 31st and won both Elementary and Medium Champion with scores exceeding 70%.  He will now be ridden for Remi Stud by Tor Van den Berge.

FISHERMANS FRIEND WINS AUSTRALIAN PRIX ST GEORGE CHAMPIONSHIP 2008

With his rider Tor Van Den Berge, Fishermans Friend ( see stallion index) won the Australian Prix St George Championship and the Prix St George Challenge at the Australian National Championships in October 2008.    They also won the Inter I Freestyle and placed 2nd in the Inter 1 and were awarded Reserve Inter 1 Champion.   The freestyle music suited him perfectly, with a delightful mixture of fisherman songs such as the ‘Sailors Hornpipe’, ‘Over the Ocean Waves’, and even ‘What Can You Do With a Drunken Sailor’!!  Light and airy, the test was beautiful to watch, and, in total, they were the undisputed winners of the Prix St George Championship.   Needless to say, a wonderful competition by both horse and rider, and we look forward to their FEI career in the Big Tour  with anticipation!

ANNUAL HANOVERIAN OPEN DAY

1st March, 2009

Our annual Open Day at Remi Stud for 2009 was once again a great success. The weather was absolutely perfect and a sunny day around 30C was enjoyed by all 150 spectators.  Mares by such elite sires as Lanthan, Glorieux, Wolkenstein II, Prince Noir, Anamour and Fabriano had their foals at foot for everyone to see.  Several foals by our wonderful imported stallion, Fishermans Friend, were presented as well as other outstanding foals by such noted sires as Worldly, Weltmeyer, Royal Diamond, Locksley II, Londonderry, Rotspon, and Salieri.  Our classifier, Dr. Jochen Wilkens, representing the Hanoverian Verband in Germany, was very impressed with the quality of the foals and mares he judged.  He selected his Top 10 foals from around Australia during the Tour, and I am delighted to say that 4 came from our day at Remi Stud.  Six of the Top 10 foals were also sired by Fishermans Friend, including the Australia Champion Foal—Remi Federer.   There is no doubt that Fish is producing super foals.  The Champion Colt on the day was Remi Federer (Fishermans Friend/EM Remi La Bamba by Lanthan) closely contested by Remi Supersonic (Salieri/Remi Lambuca by Lanthan).  The Champion Filly was awarded to Sienna Fragrance (Fishermans Friend/EM Remi Wave Sensation by Whisper) owned by Sally Piggott in a close dual with Redwood London Affair (Londonderry/EM Remi Fatal Attraction) owned by Nathan & Kirsty Phillips.

Nine mares were presented for classification, including the Fishermans Friend daughter, EM Remi Whispering Star, who went on to win the Australian Champion Mare at the Mare Performance Test this year.  This was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to see such a select group of Hanoverians at one venue. Dr Wilkens was amazed when he awarded all of the Hanoverian mares (7) as either Elite Mares or Elite Mare Candidates—something he said he had never done before!!!  Our new stallion, Lauries As (imp), was also presented under saddle for the first time by Irina Yilmaz, together with an exciting display by Fish ridden by Tor Van Den den Berge.  They finished in a wonderful Pas de Deux leaving everyone delighted watching them showing off their outstanding movements.

Dr Wilkens gave a wonderful presentation during the lunch break which saw many people going home very informed about the ‘History and Traditions of the Hanoverian Horse’.  Full catering was available on the day provided by our local Motorhome members, all of which was donated to the Bushfire Appeal.  My parents, Graham & Fay, who, together with their many Motorhome friends, hand made wooden Hanoverian signs which were sold at the Open Day. All proceeds from these signs went to Project Hope of the Bushfire Appeal. Together with the raffle of a lovely horse painting by Fay, and the catering on the day, this wonderful group of retirees raised over $1000 for Project Hope. A truly wonderful effort.

After lunch there was a presentation of a very special mare family – the family of Surabaya xx (Mighty Planet/In The Cup). Surabaya is 21 years old and had her 15th foal at foot, 10 of which are Hanoverians. From 5 fillies she has produced 2 Elite Mares and an EMC with the other 2 fillies being a yearling and a foal.  The yearling was Remi Florence Nightingale who won Champion Filly at the Hanoverian Mare show this year.  3 of the 5 colts have competed in dressage, one of which is a NZ Young Horse Dressage Champion and the other 2 are winning at Elem/Med dressage with one in the Qld Young Rider Squad 2009. Truly an outstanding broodmare and a wonderful example of selecting a good TB mare to breed to Hanoverian stallions. The day, as usual, was a very hot one, however a beer or wine on the verandah together with a sizzling barbeque was a great way to end a successful day.
